WEEK 24
23 weeks passed | 29 weeks remain
June 15 – Monday
Today’s Quote: “The most common form of despair is not being who you are.” — Soren Kierkegaard, philosopher
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Jim Belushi (1954, actor, “According to Jim,” “Saturday Night Live”), Helen Hunt (1963, actress, “Mad About You,” “As Good as It Gets”), Courteney Cox (1964, actress, “Friends,” “Scream”), Ice Cube (1969, rapper and actor, “Friday,” “Boyz n the Hood”), Neil Patrick Harris (1973, actor, “Doogie Howser,” “How I Met Your Mother”)
GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE: Week 3 of the Google Business Profile project: build your review system. Start asking every satisfied customer before they leave. Respond to every review within 24 hours — positive or negative. Read more.
WEEKLY SPIFF: Final Father’s Day push. This week’s game: “The Perfect Gift” — any staff member who completes a full gift consultation (needs discovery, three options shown, gift wrap offered) earns a ticket. A completed sale earns two. Reward the process, not just the close.
OPERATIONS: Check your air conditioning. Not next week — today. A hot store in mid-June loses customers before they reach the case. While you’re at it, check that your display lighting isn’t adding unnecessary heat. This is the time of year small physical comforts have a big effect on how long customers stay.
MORE DATES: Men’s Health Week begins (runs through Father’s Day — spotlight men’s jewelry all week), National Lobster Day, Nature Photography Day (great excuse for a product photo session), World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
June 16 – Tuesday
Today’s Quote: “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” — Michael Jordan, basketball legend
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Thomas Haden Church (1960, actor, “Sideways,” “Wings,” happy 66th!), Tupac Shakur (1971–1996, rapper — would have turned 55 today), Kendrick Lamar (1987, rapper, Pulitzer Prize winner)
SALES MEETING: Final Father’s Day prep session. Go through your top five gift items one more time — know the price, the story, and the ideal recipient for each. Practice the close: “Would you like me to wrap that?” Offer gift boxes and gift receipts proactively. Customers who feel taken care of spend more and come back.
MARKETING: Your last-chance Father’s Day email should go out by end of this week. Subject line options that work: “Sunday is almost here,” “For the dad who says he doesn’t need anything,” or “Last chance for the perfect gift.” Keep the body short and drive to your store or website.
MORE DATES: National Fudge Day (treat the staff), Fresh Veggies Day, Bloomsday (James Joyce’s “Ulysses” — for the literary-minded on your team), International Day of the African Child

June 17 – Wednesday
Today’s Quote: “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou, poet and author
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Barry Manilow (1943, singer, “Mandy,” “Copacabana,” happy 83rd!), Venus Williams (1980, tennis champion, seven Grand Slam titles), Will Forte (1970, actor and comedian, “Saturday Night Live,” “The Last Man on Earth”)
DISPLAY: By now your Father’s Day display should be at peak. Walk it today with fresh eyes: Is everything well-lit? Are price points visible? Is gift wrapping visible and easy to mention? Sometimes the display that looked great a week ago gets raided and never quite put back right. Fix it before the weekend traffic starts.
STRATEGY: Have you thought about the story you tell customers about your store? Not the year you opened and the square footage — the actual story. Why does your store exist? What do you believe about jewelry that most stores don’t? A good company story makes people feel they’re part of something. Build yours.
MORE DATES: National Eat Your Vegetables Day, National Apple Strudel Day, Bunker Hill Day (Suffolk County, MA), World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
June 18 – Thursday
Today’s Quote: “Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present.” — Albert Camus, novelist and philosopher
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Paul McCartney (1942, musician, the Beatles, happy 84th!), Roger Ebert (1942–2013, film critic — would have turned 84 today), Isabella Rossellini (1952, actress and model), Blake Shelton (1986, country singer, happy 40th!)
FEATURED DATE: National Splurge Day. The whole premise is permission to spend on something you’ve been putting off. This is a gift-giver’s holiday and a jeweler’s best friend — post it on social with a wink: “Today is officially National Splurge Day. You’re welcome.” Link to a product or collection. Some customers just need the excuse.
MANAGEMENT: Tomorrow is Juneteenth — a federal holiday. Confirm your store’s plans: Are you open or closed? Have you communicated your hours to customers, on your website, and on your Google Business Profile? Surprises disappoint customers and cost sales.
MORE DATES: National Go Fishing Day (summer is here — lean into the outdoor lifestyle), International Picnic Day, International Sushi Day, Autistic Pride Day

June 19 – Friday
Today’s Quote: “Freedom is never given; it is won.” — A. Philip Randolph, civil rights leader
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Phylicia Rashad (1948, actress, “The Cosby Show,” Tony Award winner), Ann Wilson (1950, rock vocalist, Heart, happy 76th!), Paula Abdul (1962, singer and choreographer), Zoe Saldana (1978, actress, “Avatar,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Macklemore (1983, rapper, “Thrift Shop”)
FEATURED DATE: Juneteenth — today is Juneteenth National Independence Day, a federal holiday commemorating June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas finally received word that they were free — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is one of the most significant dates in American history. If your store is open today, acknowledge it with dignity. A simple post — “We observe and honor Juneteenth” — is appropriate. If you have Black employees or customers, this day matters deeply to them. Show up accordingly.
WEEKLY SPIFF (PAYOUT): Pay out this week’s “Perfect Gift” spiff. Father’s Day is the day after tomorrow — your biggest selling weekend is now. Make sure the floor is staffed, the cases are fresh, and everyone is energized.
MORE DATES: National Watch Day (a natural for your Father’s Day display — spotlight a watch today), National Garfield the Cat Day, World Sauntering Day
June 20 – Saturday
Today’s Quote: “The secret to happiness is not in doing what one likes, but in liking what one does.” — James M. Barrie, author, “Peter Pan”
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Lionel Richie (1949, singer, “All Night Long,” “Hello”), John Goodman (1952, actor, “Roseanne,” “The Big Lebowski”), Nicole Kidman (1967, actress, two-time Oscar winner), John Taylor (1960, bassist, Duran Duran, happy 66th!)
SALES: Father’s Day eve. This is your biggest day of the Father’s Day window — last-minute shoppers are real, and they spend. Staff everyone you can. Keep gift wrapping fast and visible. Have gift cards ready for the shopper who simply can’t decide. Procrastinators are still buyers; they just need a little more hand-holding.
THING TO STOP DOING THIS WEEK: Stop waiting for customers to ask about gift wrapping. Offer it on every sale, every time, as a matter of course — “Would you like me to box that up for you?” It costs almost nothing and signals that this is a gift-worthy store.
MORE DATES: Summer Solstice Eve, International Surfing Day, World Refugee Day, National Ice Cream Soda Day, American Eagle Day
June 21 – Sunday
Today’s Quote: “The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” — Theodore Hesburgh, priest and educator
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Prince William (1982, Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne), Chris Pratt (1979, actor, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Jurassic World”), Juliette Lewis (1973, actress, “Cape Fear,” “Natural Born Killers”), Lana Del Rey (1985, singer-songwriter), Ray Davies (1944, musician, the Kinks, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer)
FEATURED DATE: Father’s Day. This is the day you’ve been building toward for three weeks. However your store did this weekend, take a moment to appreciate the effort your team put in. After the day’s sales, do a quick debrief: What sold fastest? What didn’t move? What questions came up repeatedly? That debrief is worth more than any post-holiday report you’ll ever write.
FEATURED DATE: Summer Solstice — at 4:24 AM EDT today, summer officially begins. It’s the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. A post-Father’s Day social angle: “The days are long. Make them count.” This is also a natural pivot point — the Father’s Day chapter is closing, and the back half of the summer begins.
MORE DATES: International Day of Yoga, National Selfie Day (encourage customers to post a selfie with their new Father’s Day gift and tag your store), World Music Day / Fete de la Musique, Go Skateboarding Day, National Peaches and Cream Day
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK: “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” — Charles M. Schulz. Father’s Day is done. The solstice has turned. Enjoy the longest day — you’ve earned it.
