Weekly Dates and To-Dos: June 8-14 (Week 23)

WEEK 23

22 weeks passed | 30 weeks remain

Go to June 8 to see the answer to this month’s “Mystery Date” quiz.

June 8 – Monday

Today’s Quote: “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” H. Jackson Brown Jr., author

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Nancy Sinatra (1940, singer, “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'”), Bonnie Tyler (1951, singer, “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” happy 75th!), Julianna Margulies (1966, actress, “The Good Wife,” happy 60th!), Nick Rhodes (1962, keyboardist, Duran Duran)

GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE: Week 2 of the Google Business Profile project: photos and video. Upload at least 10 real photos — storefront, interior, products, team. Then shoot a short video: a store tour, a product demo, or a quick owner intro. A minute or less is plenty. Read more.

WEEKLY SPIFF: This week’s game: “Father’s Day Flash.” Any sale of a men’s item over $X triggers a scratch-off ticket. Varies the excitement and ties the incentive directly to the category you need moving. Set the threshold to push average ticket up slightly from last week’s numbers.

FEATURED DATE: Strawberry Moon — tonight’s full moon is the Strawberry Moon, named by Algonquin tribes to mark the ripening of wild strawberries. It’s a natural social media moment: a shot of a ruby, garnet, or red-toned piece against a warm evening sky, with a simple caption about this month’s full moon. Pearl folklore ties in beautifully too — pearls were said to be drops of moonlight fallen into the sea. Post it tonight.

MORE DATES: World Oceans Day (ocean-inspired jewelry — pearls, coral, aquamarine, blue topaz), Best Friends Day (best friend jewelry — doubles, charms, matching sets), National Best Friends Day

June 9 – Tuesday

Today’s Quote: “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” Stephen Covey, author, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Michael J. Fox (1961, actor, “Back to the Future,” “Family Ties,” happy 65th!), Johnny Depp (1963, actor, “Pirates of the Caribbean”), Natalie Portman (1981, actress, “Black Swan,” happy 45th!), Aaron Sorkin (1961, writer, “The West Wing,” “The Social Network”)

MYSTERY DATE ANSWER: Natalie Portman is the Academy Award–winning actress who turns 45 otoday. A lifelong Tiffany & Co. devotee, she’s now the brand’s global House Ambassador, modeling pieces from their most exclusive high jewelry.

SALES MEETING: This week’s topic: Father’s Day objections. The most common one is “He doesn’t wear jewelry.” Practice the response together: “A lot of men say that — until they find the right piece. Let me show you a few things that don’t feel like jewelry.” Have your three best Father’s Day items ready to pull and pass around.

MANAGEMENT: Book time with your top two employees this week. Ask what’s working and what’s broken — no agenda, just listen. You’ll learn something you didn’t know, and they’ll feel heard. Both outcomes are worth the hour.

MORE DATES: National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day 🥧, Donald Duck Day (June 9, 1934 — Disney debut), World Oceans Day continues

June 10 – Wednesday

Today’s Quote: “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father and inventor

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Elizabeth Hurley (1965, actress and model), Gina Gershon (1962, actress, “Showgirls,” “Bound”), Jeanne Tripplehorn (1963, actress, “Big Love”)

MARKETING: Father’s Day is 11 days away. Your second email of the campaign should go out this week — not a generic “Gift ideas for Dad” subject line but something specific and personal. “The watch he’ll actually wear.” “For the dad who says he doesn’t want anything.” Specificity gets opens. Generic gets deleted.

DISPLAY: Create a dedicated Father’s Day section in your cases if you haven’t already. Group by price point, not by product type — that’s how gift buyers actually shop. A clear sign that says “Under $150,” “Under $300,” “Under $500” does the selling before a salesperson says a word.

MORE DATES: National Iced Tea Day (June is National Iced Tea Month — great excuse for a “Cool off” in-store promotion), National Black Cow Day, Ballpoint Pen Day

June 11 – Thursday

Today’s Quote: “Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” Confucius, philosopher

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Peter Dinklage (1969, actor, “Game of Thrones”), Shia LaBeouf (1986, actor, “Transformers,” happy 40th!), Joshua Jackson (1978, actor, “Dawson’s Creek,” “Fringe”), Adrienne Barbeau (1945, actress, “Maude,” “Creepshow”)

OPERATIONS: Do a mid-year review of your security — motion detection, alarm system, safe combination, camera coverage, who has keys. It’s been six months since you last thought about it. Slow summer season is the right time to catch anything that’s drifted.

TRAINING: Run a 10-minute referral drill this week. Staff practices asking satisfied customers for a referral before they leave — something as simple as “If you have a friend who’d love this store, I’d love to meet them.” Do it weekly until it’s second nature.

MORE DATES: National Corn on the Cob Day, National Hug Your Cat Day, King Kamehameha Day (Hawaii)

June 12 – Friday

Today’s Quote: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Adriana Lima (1981, supermodel, Victoria’s Secret Angel, happy 45th!), Dave Franco (1985, actor, “Now You See Me”), Anne Frank (1929–1945, diarist — would have turned 97 today)

WEEKLY SPIFF (PAYOUT): Pay out this week’s Father’s Day Flash game. Announce next week’s spiff Monday — Father’s Day is one week away, so make it count.

LOOKING AHEAD: Father’s Day is one week from Sunday. Walk the floor today with fresh eyes: Is the men’s section well-lit and well-signed? Do the price tags make sense? Is there a gift-wrapping option visible? Small details move the needle when traffic picks up this weekend.

MORE DATES: National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, National Jerky Day, Red Rose Day (feature your ruby and garnet pieces today)

June 13 – Saturday

Today’s Quote: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Nelson Mandela, South African president and Nobel laureate

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Chris Evans (1981, actor, “Captain America,” happy 45th!), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (1986, actresses and fashion designers, happy 40th!), Tim Allen (1953, actor and comedian, “Home Improvement”), Malcolm McDowell (1943, actor, “A Clockwork Orange”)

SALES: Pre-Father’s Day Saturday. Your staff should be in full gift-guide mode today — every customer who walks in is either a gift buyer or someone who could use a reminder that the holiday is a week away. Make sure everyone is greeting, engaging, and mentioning Father’s Day within the first two minutes.

THING TO STOP DOING THIS WEEK: Stop presenting price before value. The moment you say the number before the customer has fallen in love with the piece, you’ve made price the subject. Show it, tell the story, let them react — then discuss price.

June 14 – Sunday

Today’s Quote: “May every sunrise hold more promise and every sunset hold more peace.” Unknown

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Steffi Graf (1969, tennis legend, 22 Grand Slam titles), Boy George (1961, singer, Culture Club, happy 65th!), Yasmine Bleeth (1968, actress, “Baywatch”)

FEATURED DATE: Flag Day. June 14 marks the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in 1777. A simple flag in your window or doorway is all you need. It’s also the beginning of National Flag Week. If you carry patriotic-themed pieces — red, white, and blue stones, flag motifs, military-inspired designs — a quick social post today sets up a natural lead-in to Father’s Day next week.

MORE DATES: National Flag Week begins, U.S. Army Birthday (251st — founded 1775), National Strawberry Shortcake Day

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” — Mark Twain. Father’s Day is seven days away. Everything you do this week either helps or doesn’t. Start strong.
