WEEK 10
9 weeks passed | 43 weeks remain
Mar 9 – Monday
Today’s Quote: “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” — Henry Ford
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Oscar Isaac (1979, “Star Wars”), Juliette Binoche (1964, “The English Patient”), Emmanuel Lewis (1971, “Webster”, happy 55th!), Brittany Snow (1986, “Pitch Perfect”, happy 40th!)
FEATURED DATE: Barbie Day. Barbie turned 67 today. Her hold on women of all ages has never been stronger. If you’re feeling playful, post a photo of Barbie modeling your best earrings with the caption “Even Barbie upgrades to the real thing eventually.” Small-e event — one photo, zero budget.
30-DAY VIDEO CHALLENGE: Week 2 begins. This week’s focus: product videos. Pick one piece from your case each day and talk about it for 30–60 seconds. No script — just describe what makes it special, who it’s for, and why you love it. By Friday, you’ll have five product videos in the bank. (Read more.)
WEEKLY SPIFF: New game this week. It’s called “First In, First Out”. Every store has pieces that have been sitting there so long you’ve stopped seeing them. They’re just part of the furniture now. This game makes your staff see them again.
THING TO STOP DOING THIS WEEK: Stop asking customers about their budget. The moment you ask “What’s your budget?” you’ve put a ceiling on the sale. Instead, show a range. Let them fall in love with something they didn’t plan on. If they need to come down in price, they will — but at least they saw what’s possible.
MANAGEMENT: Write one specific note of praise today — not merely “good job” but “The way you handled Mrs. Chen’s repair concern yesterday turned a complaint into a compliment. That’s exactly the kind of thing that builds loyalty.” Keep a list so you hit everyone at least once a month.
MORE DATES: National Meatball Day, Panic Day, National Napping Day (day after DST — your team earned it)
Mar 10 – Tuesday
Today’s Quote: “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” — Albert Einstein
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Carrie Underwood (1983, country superstar), Olivia Wilde (1984, actress/director), Sharon Stone (1958, actress), Chuck Norris (1940, action star), Jon Hamm (1971, “Mad Men”, happy 55th!)
FEATURED DATE: It’s Mario Day — MAR10. If you’ve got staff who grew up on Nintendo, let them run with it. This might be one of those days where your younger employees will make better content than you — let them.
FEATURED DATE: Holi begins today (Hindu Festival of Colors). This vibrant celebration of spring and renewal is marked by throwing colored powders, feasting, and togetherness. If your market has an Indian community, a social media post celebrating Holi — paired with colorful gemstones (rubies, sapphires, emeralds, amethysts) — shows cultural awareness and makes a spectacular visual tie-in.
SALES MEETING: This week’s topic: “15 Sales Killers You’re Doing Right Now”.
STRATEGY: Study what your competitors are doing for spring. Visit their websites, sign up for their newsletters, screenshot their social media. You’re not copying — you’re scouting. Every good coach studies game film.
MORE DATES: National Pack Your Lunch Day, Harriet Tubman Day, International Day of Awesomeness

Mar 11 – Wednesday
Today’s Quote: “Vision without action is daydream. Action without vision is nightmare.” — Japanese proverb
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Terrence Howard (1969, “Empire”), Johnny Knoxville (1971, “Jackass”, happy 55th!), Alex Kingston (1963, “Doctor Who”)
FEATURED DATE: National Promposal Day. Prom season is right around the corner. If you carry fashion jewelry, hair accessories, or anything a teenager might wear to a dance, this is your moment. Promote your offerings. Wish good luck to any starry-eyed suitors asking for prom dates. Aside from that, how about you and your staff share your own prom memories? Whichever you pick (or maybe you do them all!), tag any posts with hashtags like #prom, #promseason plus local high school names. Even if prom jewelry and accessories aren’t a key market for you, having a presence here establishes you as the store local teenagers remember when it’s time to buy their first “real” piece of jewelry.
MERCHANDISING: April is the biggest month for men’s wedding bands. This week, start the process of redisplaying and expanding your assortment so the section looks authoritative. Group by material — tungsten, titanium, gold, platinum, alternative metals — and add signage that says “Groom’s Corner” or “His Band.” When a guy walks in and sees a dedicated section, it signals “You belong here.” That matters more than most jewelers realize.
MANAGEMENT: Delegate one task you’ve been hoarding. Pick something that might feel too important to hand off — that’s the right one. Delegation isn’t about dumping work. It’s about building team strength. Your team will not be able to grow if you keep playing every position.
MARKETING: Administrative Professionals Day is April 22 — about six weeks out, which is the right time to reach out. Pull up your LinkedIn connections and send a handful of business contacts a short, personal note with a few gift ideas for the people who keep their offices running. No mass email, no campaign — just a jeweler doing what jewelers do best. Send new/different ideas every few weeks up through April 22.
MORE DATES: National Worship of Tools Day (celebrate your bench!), National Johnny Appleseed Day
Mar 12 – Thursday
Today’s Quote: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.” — Jimmy Johnson
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Liza Minnelli (1946, “Cabaret”, happy 80th to a jewelry-wearing legend!), James Taylor (1948, singer-songwriter), Aaron Eckhart (1968, actor), Courtney Cox (1964, “Friends”)
FEATURED DATE: National Girl Scout Day. This might be the most underappreciated date on the jeweler’s calendar. The moms love it, the kids love it, and your staff gets a kick out of it. Invite the local troop to see your jewelers at work. Let them watch a stone setting or a simple repair. Teach them where gems come from and why they sparkle. If the girls bring cookies, buy a bunch — then invite customers to come in later for a taste. (Yummm, Samoas!) You’re building future customers (the girls), reaching potential customers (the moms), and impressing current customers (everyone else). One store even had their goldsmith help each girl make a simple wire ring to take home. The troop leader said it was the only field trip where every mom wanted to come.
SALES: Tax refund checks are flowing now. If you haven’t already, set up a “Treat Yourself” display with pieces in the $150–$500 range. Position it near the entrance. This is impulse-buy territory — and tax refund shoppers are already in a spending mood.
MORE DATES: National Plant a Flower Day, National Working Moms Day (treat yo’self!), Alfred Hitchcock Day

Mar 13 – Friday
Today’s Quote: “Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.” — Truman Capote
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Common (1972, rapper/actor), Emile Hirsch (1985, “Into the Wild”), William H. Macy (1950, “Fargo”)
FEATURED DATE: National Jewel Day! This is our day. Post something beautiful. A stunning piece, a gemstone fact, a customer story — anything that reminds your followers why they love jewelry. This one’s yours. Use it.
FEATURED DATE: Good Samaritan Day. Do something kind for someone in your community — no strings attached. Sponsor a Little League team. Donate a piece to a local charity auction. Show up at a school career day. Goodwill marketing is marketing that doesn’t feel like marketing. That’s why it works.
WEEKLY SPIFF: This week’s game is “First In, First Out” spiff. If you launch spiffs on Friday, introduce the game today.
EVENTS: Plan a relaxed “couples’ night” sometime this month or next. (Maybe April 23 — which is Lovers Day?) Bubbly, ring try-ons, a selfie corner. Invite local influencers to spread the word. Keep it low-key — the goal is atmosphere, not pressure. Couples who have fun in your store come back when they’re ready to buy.
MORE DATES: National K9 Veterans Day, National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day (dare your staff?)
Mar 14 – Saturday
Today’s Quote: “In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed.” — Sid Caesar
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Simone Biles (1997, gymnast), Stephen Curry (1988, basketball), Billy Crystal (1948, comedian/actor), Albert Einstein (1879, physicist — born on this day!), Michael Caine (1933, actor), Quincy Jones (1933, music legend)
FEATURED DATE: Pi Day (3.14)! What is infinite, irrational, and indivisible? The everlasting love of your customers — and also pi. Market 0.314 TCW diamond jewelry as the ultimate gifts of endless love. A Japanese jeweler ran a “Propose with Pi” campaign using this angle — the idea that pi cannot be divided, just like true devotion. At minimum, post something clever: “Our love for fine jewelry is infinite and irrational. Happy Pi Day.” Pair it with pie for the staff. Everyone wins.
INVENTORY: Run your monthly aged inventory report. What’s been sitting for 12+ months? Make a list. Anything over 18 months gets a hard look: melt, redesign, clearance, or consignment. Dead inventory isn’t an asset — it’s a parking space.
MARKETING: Mother’s Day is May 10 — less than eight weeks away. Start your planning now. The stores that promote Mother’s Day earliest capture the most intentional buyers. The ones that start in late April get the procrastinators.
MORE DATES: National Write Down Your Story Day (a great opportunity to share your store’s origin story on social media!), National Children’s Craft Day (maybe invite an elementary-school class to watch your bench jewelers at work today?)
Mar 15 – Sunday
Today’s Quote: “Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em.” — William Shakespeare
CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: Eva Longoria (1975, “Desperate Housewives”, happy 51st!), will.i.am (1975, Black Eyed Peas), Bret Michaels (1963, Poison), Fabio (1961, model, happy 65th!)
FEATURED DATE: The 98th Academy Awards air tonight on ABC, hosted by Conan O’Brien. “Sinners” leads with a record 16 nominations. Whether or not you host a watch party, use the red carpet as social media fuel. Post photos of statement jewelry — earrings, necklaces, cocktail rings — with “Red Carpet Ready” captions. Monday morning, post about the winners and the best jewelry moments from the broadcast. The Oscars are a free advertising platform for jewelry. Use them.
FEATURED DATE: Ides of March. “Beware the Ides of March” isn’t just Shakespeare — it’s good business advice. Is there a process that’s quietly draining your time? A vendor who’s not delivering? A staff issue you’ve been avoiding? Today’s the day to face it. Tolerate, train, or terminate — but don’t ignore the slow bleed.
FEATURED DATE: NCAA March Madness — Selection Sunday! The 68-team bracket is revealed tonight at 6 p.m. ET on CBS. First Four games start Tuesday. If your staff is into basketball, organize a bracket pool. At the very least, host a “Sheer Madness Sale” to clear out old inventory — it’s worked for stores before.
MORE DATES: True Confessions Day, World Consumer Rights Day, World Sleep Day
