Wild Video Shows California Jeweler Opening Fire on Smash-and-Grab Gang … Plus More of This Week’s Crime Stories
Masked robbers flee Olivia’s Fine Jewelry after the store owner fired shots at the gang. STORE SURVEILLANCE VIDEO

A group of masked robbers snatched $170,000 worth of jewelry from a store in Madera, CA, before fleeing under a hail of bullets fired by the owner.

Wild security footage shows the five thieves smashing the glass cases at Olivia’s Fine Jewelry to swipe the jewels in what police are calling a “meticulous” plot.

Moments later, the store owner appears with a gun, firing shots at the gang and chasing them out of his shop and into the street. During the mayhem, a store clerk can be seen pushing one of the thieves back over a counter, causing his pants to fall down and exposing his underwear.

None of the thieves were apparently wounded by the barrage of bullets and escaped in a dark sedan.

Madera Police describe the robbery as sophisticated, with suspects having a clear plan and showing signs of prior experience. The investigation continues with no suspects in custody.

Paris Motorist Says Good Samaritan Who Helped Him Is Louvre Heist Suspect

One of the suspects in the $102 million jewelry heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris may have a surprising side to him, according to a driver who says he was helped by the man weeks before the robbery. In an interview with ABC News, Ahmed Alla, 24, said he was stranded on the Paris ring road in September, out of gas and facing fines, when a motorcyclist stopped to assist him, offering to help move his car out of danger. The man, later identified through a Snapchat handle, was linked to the Louvre jewelry theft.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
