MARGOT ROBBIE KNOWS HOW to dress the part of her characters on the red carpet. Just look back to her “Barbie” press tour — a parade of pink and power suits, lavish gowns and glittering jewels. For her first premiere of Emerald Fennell’s modern gothic film adaptation of “Wuthering Heights”, loosely based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel of obsession and doomed romance, Robbie, who plays Catherine in the film, is once again method-dressing with the help of her brilliant longtime stylist Andrew Mukamal. At this premiere, she wore a Roberto Cavalli dramatic minidress with bell sleeves and a velvet trimmed neckline and designer Cece Fein Hughes’ custom-made symbolic enamel signet ring for the press tour as well as a pair of Cece Jewellery’s large horseshoe hoops with heart-shaped diamond drops. Fein Hughes also created a matching one for Jacob Elordi that Robbie gifted him.

I first interviewed art historian-turned-jeweler Fein Hughes in 2021, when she launched her collection. I was immediately taken by her meaningful and striking miniature works of art: engraved and hand-painted Champlevé signet rings, inspired by maritime imagery, tattoos, folklore, fairytales and what she has described as “the spooky and witchy landscape of Dartmoor in Devon, England,” where she grew up. Since launching her brand, her line has grown and evolved, as has her roster of celebrities for whom she has created custom designs including the ring Gigi Hadid commissioned for her best friend Taylor Swift. She also designed a bespoke signet for Tom Holland and her pieces have also been worn by Justin Bieber, Emily Blunt and Elle Fanning.

I was thrilled to learn that Fein Hughes had created pieces for the press tour, due to my respect for her craft, coupled with the fact that “Wuthering Heights” was one of my favorite books with one of my favorite quotes — “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same” — that is engraved on the matching rings.
Fein Hughes explained “It was such a special request to create these matching rings, not only to honor ‘Wuthering Heights’, but also the characters and the time Margot and Jacob spent together bringing the film to life. Margot gifting this to Jacob offered such a beautiful insight into how deeply connected you can become when working together on something so powerful and romantic. The rings symbolize Heathcliff and Catherine, and a love that transcends time. The two skeletons in an embrace are positioned exactly as they appear on the iconic film poster, entwined with roses and thorns, representing passion, beauty, and heartbreak. Along with the quote, C&H is engraved on either side, a quiet tribute to Cathy and Heathcliff, two characters, and two souls, bound together forever.”
The rings are also engraved with 1847-2026 (1847 being the original publication date of “Wuthering Heights”).
Robbie wore a Jessica McCormack pear-shaped diamond around her neck during the tour and I can’t wait to see what jewelry comes next.
