The sighting: Actress Margot Robbie recently attended the LA premiere of her new movie, “Wuthering Heights”. The actress chose a dramatic Schiaparelli gown for the occasion and she melted my brain by pairing it with one of my favorite pieces of jewelry to ever exist in the history of time.

The jewels: Margot Robbie wore diamond earrings, a ruby and diamond ring, and the legendary and iconic Taj Mahal diamond.

The Taj Mahal diamond is a heart-shaped, table-cut diamond set in a heart-shaped plaque of white jade set with rubies and further table cut diamonds.

According to its Christie’s auction listing, the Taj Mahal diamond was once owned by Shah Jahangir, who was the Mughal Emperor from 1627-28 A.D. He passed the stone down to his son, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (1592-1666), who gifted the jewel to his favorite wife, Mumtaz-I-Mahal in 1627.

Another gift that Shah Jahan had made for his cherished Mumtaz-I-Mahal? The legendary Taj Mahal, a wonder of the world, which has become the jewel’s namesake.

In 1972, the Taj Mahal diamond was placed into its current gold and ruby Cartier setting and purchased by Richard Burton as a gift for Elizabeth Taylor. The piece was last sold in 2011, when it was auctioned at Christie’s for $8.8 million.

Robbie also wore an extraordinary pair of Lorraine Schwartz earrings with 38 carats of old-cut diamonds – notable even when playing second fiddle to a legendary treasure – and a lovely 19th-century antique ruby and diamond ring from Fred Leighton (pictured below).

And if that weren’t enough: Robbie also told a reporter from Extra that her manicure for the night featured real diamonds.

The trends: The major trend here is epic archival pulls on red carpets, which I am a huge fan of as long as everyone is careful and the jewels are not damaged.

Also: this is the third celebrity post I’ve written recently where I found myself wanting to say “rubies aren’t really trending, but maybe they will be soon,” so maybe the ruby trend is finally heating up for 2026.

What do we think? I was utterly beside myself with delight to see the Taj Mahal diamond out and about. It’s not only one of my favorite jewels of all time, but one of my favorite objects in existence … and now we have not only new photos of it, but videos!!

Choosing this necklace — an exquisite historical treasure closely tied to several of the world’s most iconic love stories – for the premiere of “Wuthering Heights” two weeks before Valentine’s Day is almost too perfect for words.

The combination of the Taj Mahal diamond and Robbie’s modern Schiaparelli gown with those enormous Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and antique ruby ring creates an opulent, dramatic, romantic look with a hint of intentional anachronistic chaos that encapsulates the mood we’ve seen in all of the Wuthering Heights promotional materials so far.

I am delighted to learn that the Taj Mahal diamond’s Cartier chain is adjustable, but why did they need to make it so tight? Scooch that thing down an inch and a half so Robbie can breathe and it will better occupy the space above her neckline.

And finally, a message to Cartier: if you’re letting this piece out of the vault, can I please come touch it? Pretty please? Call me.

Judgement: 1,627/10 for an archival jewelry moment so epic I can hardly believe that it happened.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
