(PRESS RELEASE) NEWTON, IA — The Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO), the only member-owned buying group in the jewelry industry, welcomes its 1,200th retail member: Witt’s Jewelry of Wayne, Nebraska.
Founded in 1966 by Grant Johnson, RJO began with 14 independent jewelers seeking stronger buying power through shared resources. What started in the basement of Johnson’s home has evolved into one of the industry’s most influential networks, now filling convention halls, connecting hundreds of vendor partners with retailers, and delivering meaningful value year after year. As the organization approaches its 60th anniversary in 2026, its steady growth highlights the lasting strength of its model, and the trust members place in it.
RJO supports independent jewelers with competitive buying power, marketing programs, education, and relationships that strengthen both retail members and vendor partners. Its member-owned structure ensures benefits flow directly back to the jewelers it serves, most notably through its patronage dividend, one of the most significant member rewards in the jewelry industry. In 2026, RJO will celebrate 60 years of empowering independent jewelers and our renowned vendors, a testament to the organization’s enduring commitment to its members and the industry as a whole.
“Reaching 1,200 members marks more than an enrollment milestone, it represents the strength of the partnerships that define RJO,” said Sarah Streb, CEO of RJO. “Our retailers and vendor partners choose to work together, invest in one another, and build an organization where everyone can thrive. The patronage dividend, our shared buying programs, and the long-standing relationships within RJO all speak to the power of that collaboration. As we head toward our 60th anniversary, we remain focused on growing these partnerships and expanding opportunities for every member of our community.”
Erin Sharp, Membership Coordinator at RJO, said, “One of the greatest joys of my role is getting to know each new store that joins our organization. Every member brings something meaningful to our community, and Witt’s Jewelry is a wonderful reminder of the passion and dedication independent jewelers bring to their customers every day. We’re excited to support them through the resources and relationships within RJO, and we know they’ll feel right at home here. We’re grateful to our entire membership for trusting us to support their businesses and the communities they serve.”
Sabrina Smead, COO of RJO, added, “RJO has always been about building meaningful relationships. Every retailer and vendor is part of our family, and welcoming Witt’s Jewelry is a perfect example of the connections and collaboration that make our organization special. With 60 years of history behind us, we are proud of our achievements—but we’re not stopping here. RJO continues to grow, build momentum, and foster a supportive, collaborative environment where every member feels valued and empowered.”
