The sighting: Musical artist Chappell Roan was nominated for two awards at the 2026 Grammys, but was her head-turning outfit that stole the show. The redheaded songstress wore a custom Mugler ensemble that draped from her nipple rings, revealing most of her upper body…and some elegant Buccellati jewelry.
The jewels: Beneath that translucent oxblood cape, the lower layer of Chappell Roan’s outfit was suspended only from a pair of nipple rings. It’s a custom Mugler ensemble inspired by a controversial look from the designer’s 1998 collection.
If you’re nervously wondering what would happen if someone stepped on the back of Chappell Roan’s train, don’t worry: CNN reports that while the original ’98 Mugler look was supported by model Erica Vanbriel’s own nipple piercings, Chappell Roan’s version is attached to clever prosthetics. The singer’s anatomy isn’t even really visible; she’s covered by naked-looking fabric.
This extremely edgy ensemble was accompanied by some lovely Buccellati jewels. According to WWWJewels, Chappell Roan wore a Buccellati Étoilée Color necklace with spessartine, rubies, and sapphires as well as a pair of Buccellati Opera yellow gold and diamond earrings paired with and red enamel Buccellati Opera Tulle pendants.
The trends: Do I think consumers will soon be clamoring for garments to hang from their own nipple piercings? Anything’s possible! But no, I do not.
Nipple piercings aside, I’ve noticed a growing number of red-hued gems on red carpets recently! Let’s keep an eye on this for 2026.
What do we think? This nipple ring dress is WILD. It makes no sense for 99.999% of humans on Earth. But for Chappell Roan – who is known for her edgy, campy, boundary-pushing fashion – it is perfect.
I am beyond delighted that Chappell Roan and her stylist considered this look and thought “Hey you know what we need with this nipple ring dress? Some iconic Italian haute joaillerie.”
The Buccellati pieces might feel like an incongruous choice, but they really do work beautifully in this ensemble. I love that the necklace introduces some texture to the look and all of that red from the rubies, garnets, and enamel works so well with the diaphanous Mugler’s hue.
And hey: better a shocking red carpet look than a boring one, am I right?
Judgement: Jaw on the floor out of 10 for this flabbergasting fashion moment.
