The sighting: Singer Songwriter Chappell Roan turned heads at the 2026 Grammys in a risqué jewelry-focused outfit, but her afterparty look was far less scandalous and still included a very noteworthy jewelry moment. Let’s discuss!

The jewels: I have no concrete information about this look, sadly, so this is just my observations:

Chappell Roan wore a pair of silver-toned earrings with a silver chain belt and what is either an antique chatelaine or a surprisingly accurate reproduction of one.

According to Lang Antiques’ Antique Jewelry University, a chatelaine – from the French “lady of the castle” – is a wonderful type of antique jewel that consists of a decorative belt hook with chains suspending hold useful items like keys, watches, seal fobs, sewing essentials, small knives, pomanders, writing utensils, fans, or anything else a lady might need.

Chatelaines were used from the 17th to the early 20th century, only waning in popularity once it became more common for women to work outside the home.

The trends: Silver is trending, as are vintage and antique pieces and brooches! Chatelaines are not trending, but this one is a very cool point of intersection for all of the other trends I mentioned here.

What do we think? I’ve always had a soft spot for chatelaines. They’re such a clever and stylish way of keeping one’s essentials nearby, kind of a cross between a keychain and a purse.

They’re no longer relevant for practical use (attach your phone or credit card to one and it will be stolen immediately) but I absolutely love the idea of wearing a chatelaine like this, as a bold brooch. It’s so unusual and visually interesting and I love the movement that the tassel-like sway of the chatelaine’s suspended items adds to the overall look.

This decorative chatelaine moment is also such a good fit for Chappell Roan’s distinctive, campy, over-the-top aesthetic.

If you sourced this piece for Chappell Roan, please let me know? I’d love to learn more about it!

Judgement: 900/10 for a creative and fascinating jewelry styling moment.
