DESIGNERS ARE GOING for graphic colors of black, gold and white in classically shaped designs including link chain necklaces, signet rings and creative heart pendants. High-karat yellow gold provides the backdrop for matte and shiny black enamel or black onyx and pops of diamond accents. These are jewels that can go anywhere and be worn with any type of minimal fashion or create an easy elegance for black tie events. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards proved this when Cate Blanchett wore her Armani Prive gown with a chunky black Pomellato signet ring, and Madeline Brewster wore large W. Rosado black hoop earrings with her evening gown.

Beth Bernstein is a jewelry historian, journalist, and one-time jewelry designer. She is the author of six jewelry books and has contributed to many trade and consumer print and online magazines.
