De Beers’ June Diamond Sales Fall to Lowest Level Since January

Company says rough demand is stable.

De Beers reported diamond sales of $560 million for the month of June, the least the diamond producer has sold since January, Bloomberg reports. The previous offering was $636 million, the article says, noting that sales are typically slower in the second half of the year. In a statement to the business news outlet, outgoing De Beers CEO Philippe Mellier said: “Sales in the fifth cycle of the year were somewhat lower than in the fourth cycle, in line with our expectations and typical seasonal demand patterns. Rough-diamond demand and polished-diamond prices remain stable, reflecting steady consumer demand, but we maintain a cautious outlook.”
