Gem Quiz: Guess the Name of This Rock Nerd’s Rock

I was discovered in France in 1845 and named after a fabled alchemist from the 15th century who was supposedly the first to identify the properties of antimony (of which I’m a derivative). But let’s set aside the murkiness of that back story and focus on what we do know: I’m highly lustered, form in sprays of crystals and am dimorphous with the mineral senarmontite (as is the case with graphite and diamond, we share the same chemistry but have different structures). Yes, I’m a rock nerd’s rock. But I can also look cool hanging from drop earrings.

Who am I?

Guess this gem for a chance to win a “Jewelry Geek” T-shirt. Be sure to include your full name and the name and address of your store. The contest winner will be selected from among correct answers to this question.

Contest Closes June 16, Winner Announcement June 19

Be sure to visit on June 19 for the “big reveal” of this month’s gemstone, plus the winner of our contest and all participants who got the correct answer.
