He’s Closing His Jewelry Store After 52 Years. Here’s Why …

Tower of Jewels in Las Vegas is closing its doors after more than 52 years in business, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Jack Weinstein, who took over the business in the 1960s, is retiring at age 89. Four of his children work in the business and plan to move on.

Weinstein told the Review-Journal that he’d love to keep working but must consider his age.

“How much time do I got?” he said. “I’m definitely going to miss it. I dream every night what I am going to do and how much pleasure I had doing the business that I had.”

The best parts have been interacting with customers and working alongside family, including his wife, Nancy.

At its peak the business had 100 employees spread over several stores, with annual sales of $12 million. But the recession took a toll and today the company has just 20 employees.

The internet has made things tougher, said Weinstein’s daughter Polly.

“The volume has changed with the internet and people come in, look at price, and go shop online,” she said.
