Jeweler Severely Beaten in Brooklyn Robbery

A jeweler in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn was severely beaten during a robbery at his store.

Owner Manny Cohen, 79, was taken to the ICU of a local hospital with a brain bleed after the attack, NBC New York reported.

Cohen was closing his store at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 when he was attacked. The two men entered the store and took jewelry valued at $100,000.

Surveillance footage “captured the alleged suspects ransacking the shop for more than 20 minutes,” according to NBC New York.

“They almost beat him to death just to rob the store,” said Cohen’s son, Shawn Cohen, according to the news outlet.

The New York Post identified the business as Roxy Jewelry Store on Flatbush Avenue. The newspaper reported on Jan. 4 that the store owner “remains in the ICU with a severe brain injury” and that “his prognosis is still unclear.”

The Jewelers’ Security Alliance is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Call the JSA Reward Hotline at 800-537-0067. Calls are confidential.
