The television personality skipped the necklace and earrings — and it worked.

The sighting: Television personality and model Padma Lakshmi was recently interviewed by The Cut about her new cookbook, “Padma’s All American”. She wore many outfits for the editorial photos accompanying the feature, but the one that caught my eye was a sleek purple gown with only one accessory: a very distinctive pair of rings stacked on one finger.

The jewels: The only jewels that Padma Lakshmi wore with her striking purple gown was the Sphinx Ring from Bliss Lau, which is two pieces that Lakshmi stacked on the same finger with one as a midi ring.

This distinctive design is a two-piece one-of-a-kind custom ring set. In the brand’s own words:

“The Sphynx is a two-piece one-of-a-kind custom ring set. The two rings are designed to nest together as one or worn reversed to form a sophisticated X silhouette. Named for the Sphynx, an icon of strength and mystery, the design embodies a quiet power that transforms as the rings interlock.”

The Sphynx ring features an array of colored diamonds in subtle hues, including one rare diamond from the now-closed Argyle mine of Australia.

The trends: The biggest trend here is Desert Diamonds, the buzzy new terminology from De Beers that is their latest attempt to both reinvigorate the demand for yellow and brown colored diamonds and encourage customers to find new things to love about Earth-mined diamonds. And this design does make those colored diamonds look very, very good.

The other noteworthy trends here are yellow gold, amorphous sculptural shapes, earth tones, and the stacking of multiple large pieces on the same finger.

What do we think? The choice to pair a floor-length, long-sleeved gown with no jewelry except for a ring set is an unusual move and not something I would expect to love … but this works so well that I can’t help but admire it.

The purple gown gets to be the primary focus of the ensemble, with no necklace or earrings to fight for attention, but when the viewer’s eye skates down the elegant line of Lakshmi’s arm, the Bliss Lau rings are waiting there to be admired.

This look was styled by Emma Oleck for The Cut, and I applaud her excellent work.

Judgement: 12/10 for an unexpected and delightful styling choice.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
