Natural Born Beauty I May Not Be, But They Love Me Down in Texas

I NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD what the whole Mark McGwire commotion was all about. In my eyes, a thing of beauty is a thing of a beauty whether it’s a small white ball flying into the high seats of Busch Stadium or a dazzling blue gem that once may have been a rather dull colorless silicate. I mean, seriously, if a little performance enhancement doesn’t bother the Geiger counter, why should it bother your customers? And don’t try to tell me rubies, sapphires, diamonds and most of those other big hitters aren’t above a little nip and tuck here, a little juice or heat to get them really looking sharp. I like to think it’s this kind of pragmatism that has made me a star in Texas.
