New Arrest Made in $20M Jewelry-Theft Case

It was reportedly England’s largest burglary.

Police in London have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with a 2015 burglary in which $20 million of jewelry and cash were taken.

A half-dozen men have already been handed sentences of between six and seven years each in connection with the crime, described as “the largest burglary in English history,” The New York Times reports. They were in their 60s and 70s.

The valuables were stolen from Hatton Garden Safe Deposit in the city’s jewelry district, according to the newspaper.

In a press release, Metropolitan Police said the newly arrested man was being held on “suspicion of non-residential burglary.” He was not identified.

He was arrested after a search warrant was carried out at an address in Islington. A number of items were seized from the address, according to the release.
