(PRESS RELEASE) MIDLOTHIAN, VA — Known as Richmond’s home for fine jewelry since 1998, Sycamore Jewelers is closing its doors and thanking customers with a “Going Out of Business Sale” beginning April 3. Customers will enjoy up to 70% off their entire selection of fine jewelry, including diamonds, gemstones, and pearls.
Sycamore Jewelers, located in the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County, developed a reputation for its spirited personality.
“We’ve always felt that we didn’t want to be stuffy jewelers,” describes co-founder/owner Joe Cheslock. “While we deal with expensive items for important occasions, we have always felt that it should all be fun. People who come into a jewelry store are often intimidated, as they don’t know what they are looking at. We give as much information as customers want to take in, but the experience is all about making people happy.”
Cheslock founded and operated the company with his business partner, the late Terry Sprankle, who passed away this past Christmas Eve. Possessing more than 80 years of combined jewelry experience, Cheslock and Sprankle, who met while working at Morton’s Jewelers in Richmond, not only shared a passion for gems and jewels, but also the gift of humor and laughter.
Patrons always knew they were working with the owners of the company, Cheslock says, pointing to online reviews that not only applaud the jewelry, but also describe the gregarious jewelers as “absolutely wonderful, accommodating, and brilliant;” “extremely personable, knowledgeable, and easy to work with;” “friendly” and “like family.”
Sycamore Jewelers is a full service jewelry store that has provided the greater Richmond community with custom jewelry design; quality jewelry cleaning, repairs, and appraisals; estate jewelry; bridal, fashion, and unique designer brands like Frederic Duclos and Galatea that are a bit different in style than consumers would find in a typical jewelry store, Cheslock describes.
Starting out in a small shop inside Sycamore Square in the Village of Midlothian, the jeweler quickly outgrew its first home, relocating to a larger store in the same center and opening a second location in Chesterfield Meadows in the Chester area. In 2013, the jeweler brought both operations into one larger space, its current location in the Commonwealth Centre.
Cheslock shares that he and Sprankle, before his unexpected passing at age 73, were preparing to retire. While he will miss the interaction with customers in the store, Cheslock is planning the next chapter in his life.
Sycamore Jewelers’ Going Out of Business Sale begins Monday, April 3 and will continue until everything is sold, at 4676 Commonwealth Centre Pkwy. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm, closed on Sunday.
