Thieves Take $400,000 in Diamonds from Courier in Highway Robbery

Diamonds worth about $400,000 were taken from couriers during a highway robbery in Washington state, police say.

The thieves are reported to have “boxed in a diamond couriers’ car on an Interstate 5 onramp, held the driver at gunpoint” and taken a backpack containing the jewels, the Seattle Times reports.

After one car cut off the couriers’ vehicle, another rammed it from the rear.

The assailants, who wore masks along with sunglasses, broke the windows of the victims’ car and punctured its tires, authorities say. The robbery happened in SeaTac, near Seattle.

The two couriers were from Hong Kong, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Police would not say where the couriers were going with the diamonds, according to the Times. It’s not believed the diamonds were in the U.S. illegally.

Police continue to investigate the robbery and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspects.
