Business Insider has published a list of how much people in each state paid for an engagement ring last year, on average.
Recall that last year, The Knot announced that the average price paid for an engagement in the U.S. was $6,351, up from $5,095 in 2011. The new state-by-state report was compiled with help from online diamond seller Ritani, Business Insider explains.
As it turns out, there are significant disparities in engagement-ring spending from one part of the country to another.
The highest average spending was in California, where the average price paid was $10,241.
The lowest average spending last year was in Utah, where the average price paid was $3,518.

Of course, the average cost of an engagement ring depends on whom you ask. In June 2017, research firm The Wedding Report announced that the average price paid in the first quarter of that year was $3,406 — significantly lower than The Knot’s figure.
