Acclaimed Diamond Cutter Gabi Tolkowsky Dies at 84

Celebrated diamond cutter Gabriel “Gabi” Tolkowsky has passed away.

He was 84.

Tolkowsky was noted for having cut the Centenary Diamond, Rapaport News reports. De Beers unveiled the 273.85-carat stone in 1991 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company’s founding.

Tolkowsky was with Diatrada from 1975 until 1995. Now defunct, Diatrada served as the manufacturing unit of De Beers.

De Beers described him as “a pioneer and a master craftsman who understood the wonder of diamonds like few other people.”
