Accutron Officially Unveils World’s First Timepieces

(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK – First unveiled in 1960 to universal acclaim, Accutron, known as the world’s first fully electronic watch, has been declared one of the most important innovations in the history of watchmaking. With the same passion for innovation and groundbreaking technology, Accutron introduces a new historical advancement in timekeeping – the world’s first watches powered by electrostatic energy.

The proprietary Accutron movement powered by electrostatic energy is created by twin turbines that rotate as a result of human motion at incredible speeds between two electrodes affixed to the movement. The energy, stored in an accumulator, powers two motors; a world’s first electrostatic motor fueling the fluid second hand and a step motor powering the hour and minute hands. Both motors are synchronized through integrated circuits to provide accuracy to +/- 5 seconds a month.

After a decade of dedicated research and development, Accutron unveils the Spaceview 2020. Recreating the stunning visual impact of the original open dial design with the exact-same signature green accents with the all-new electrostatic energy movement, Accutron commemorates the Spaceview’s place in avantgarde timepiece history. Born in an era of unparalleled risk-taking, the 1960s Accutron Spaceview was a landmark achievement and immediate sensation. By deconstructing the design of the outer case and exposing the state-of-the-art tuning fork movement, it transformed into the purest example of design integrity and technical excellence. Over time, it became an iconic masterpiece. The new style boasts a stainless steel case and bezel on a fine black leather strap, retailing for $3,450.

“These new timepieces, powered by electrostatic energy are the first of their kind and pay tribute to the iconic Spaceview design that gave Accutron the recognition of being an industry trailblazer,” said Jeffrey Cohen, president, Citizen Watch America. “Accutron will continue to maintain its position at the forefront of timekeeping accuracy and is committed to upholding an extraordinary legacy of excellence in design, style and technology.”

Accutron unveils another collection powered by electrostatic movement, the Accutron DNA. This paradigm-shifting design carries the “genetic information” of the original Spaceview, then cleverly synthesizes it to make the Accutron DNA unique in every way. Reimagined for a new generation, it elevates the bar with modernist-minimal aesthetics mixed with sci-fi touches, yet still achieves a technical high-water mark. The collection’s four new styles feature open skeletonized movements that showcase the precision of the electrostatic energy drive and high-tech rubber straps with deployant closures, adding a sportier look. The collection retails for $3,300.
