True Tales

Beware Swedish Customers Bearing Goodie Bags

We had a foreign client who formerly owned a sandwich shop in Sweden. For the holidays, he would make these fabulous open-faced bite-sized sandwiches for us the way Americans traditionally make and share cookies. At Christmas, he handed me a huge tray and a ziplock bag. In his thick Swedish accent, he said, “I brought you sandwiches and a couple of doobies!” I had never smoked a joint, nor was it recreationally legal yet in Colorado at the time, and my husband was a government contractor. I walked in the shop with all of the “goodies” and my jewelers just about died laughing. We ate the sandwiches and “donated” the offending doobies to a friend who had his medical marijuana card. — Jennifer Farnes, Revolution Jewelry Works, Colorado Springs, CO
