Blue Nile Plans to Open Four New Stores This Year

A second location in New York is slated to open this summer.

Blue Nile is continuing its brick-and-mortar push, saying it plans to open four new webrooms – what the online retailer calls its physical storefronts – in 2016, according to Rapaport. That includes a second location in New York that is scheduled to open this summer, the article says.

A webroom, which looks a lot like an Apple store, is equipped with tablets that allow customers to place orders directly from the store. The benefit of this concept is that it gives Blue Nile a physical footprint without having to manage inventory and other overhead costs that a typical retailer must. The company cited its continued emphasis on webrooms shortly after it announced disappointing fourth quarter sales numbers.
