Diamond Terminology That Sounds Dirty, But Isn’t

Don’t take these terms the wrong way.

Like every profession, the jewelry business has its own terminology. Much of it, of course, is technical and doesn’t make much sense to people outside the industry.

In fact, some of a jeweler’s language could even be taken the wrong way by someone outside the field.

We’ve compiled this fun list of terminology that might sound ribald, if you don’t know what it means.

You might want to be careful with these terms. Someone could get offended — or at least come down with a case of the giggles.

  • Cleavage
  • Girdle
  • Semi-Mount
  • Bodycolor
  • Abrasion
  • Bearding
  • Cavity
  • Internal Graining
  • Twinning Wisp
