Gem Quiz

Diamonds Are Mostly Out of Africa, I’m Out of Connecticut. But We Still Have Much in Common

I AM WHITE AND bright, clean and clear — all the attributes usually associated with diamond, yet I have none of the … let’s say “provenance” of the king of gems. My history as a gemstone dates back to 1839, when I was discovered in a small Connecticut town that would serve as inspiration for my name. Jewelry lovers like me because I provide a big, white, classic look that can be worn with just about anything. And, oh yes, at about $50 a carat, I’m quite a bit cheaper than the big D.

Who am I?
