Fancy Colour Diamonds: Rarest of the Rare

(PRESS RELEASE) HONG KONG – Incredibly rare and majestically beautiful, fancy colour diamonds have always been among the most fascinating and sought-after showcases at the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.

“We are delighted to welcome once again the most iconic jewellers to the September Fair, some of whom are presenting fancy colour diamond selections that have never been seen anywhere else,” says Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at UBM Asia.

“For loose goods, professional buyers cannot afford to miss the Fine Gem, Diamond and Gemstone Pavilions at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), where major fancy colour diamond dealers and manufacturers will be presenting their extensive selections of polished gems. Those looking for finished fancy colour diamond jewellery are guaranteed to find a wide variety of choices at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) section of the fair, from gem-quality stones in classic settings to trendy collections that are perfect for daily wear.”

Simply Incomparable

Loose or set to perfection in precious metals, fancy colour diamonds possess a mesmerising sparkle that draws the eyes in.

“There is simply no other material on the planet that produces the brilliance, dispersion and sparkle of diamonds. Nothing can replicate the brilliance and sparkle of a blue diamond for example. It’s the physical properties of the diamond itself that make it so much more superior to other stones,” shares Simon Zion, Executive Director of Hong Kong-based Dehres.

Dehres, one of the world’s largest and brightest names in fancy colour diamonds, is anticipated to amaze trade show visitors with its fancy colour diamond collection – think gorgeous pinks, incredible blues and the rarest fancy hues – and one-of-a-kind creations set with beautifully cut flawless white diamonds. The company is exhibiting in the Fine Design Pavilion (FDP), one of the fair’s signature zones.

Dehres says the powerful allure of fancy colour diamonds stems from three factors – they are extremely rare, they display extraordinary beauty and they possess the most brilliant array of colours.

House of Art is another gemstone dealer that aims to delight September Fair visitors with its fine-quality fancy colour and white diamond collections. “We welcome buyers from all over the world,” the Hong Kong-based company says.

One of House of Art’s exceptional exhibits that will be displayed in the Fine Gem Pavilion (FGP) at the AWE is a 108-carat cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut greenish-brownish yellow diamond. The diamond has a VS1 clarity grade and comes with a gem lab report.

Another rare item is a 2.58-carat oval-shaped fancy intense purplish pink diamond with an SI1 clarity grade. The romantic at heart would likewise be enamoured with a 15.56-carat fancy intense pink, VS1 diamond in a heart-shaped modified brilliant cut.

Also carving out a niche in the fancy colour diamond business is New York-based LJ West Diamonds Inc. Saying that it has the rarest collection of fancy colour diamonds – loose or mounted, the diamond expert notes that it has established exclusive relationships with leading sources of exceptional gems, including the Argyle Diamond Mine in Australia. LJ West is exhibiting in both FGP and FDP.

KGK Jewellery (HK) Ltd, a part of the KGK Group, is anticipated to highlight red-carpet worthy pieces from its Entice brand. Fusing classic, contemporary and art deco influences in its collections, Entice often turns heads with its opulent neckpieces set with radiant yellow diamonds.

Another name that has become synonymous with fancy colour diamonds is Scarselli Diamonds. The New York-based diamantaire has more than eight decades of experience in the industry and is known for yellow diamonds of strong colour in the 10-carat to 80-carat range, and for its collection of rare blues, greens, pinks, oranges and reds. Recognised as masters in the art of colour diamonds, Scarselli is exhibiting in both the FGP and FDP.

From Switzerland comes Swissdiam Geneve SA, a diamond wholesaler that specialises in important large diamonds. Its diamonds are purchased in the rough and cut by Swissdiam’s most knowledgeable staff in Antwerp. The company, which counts greens, yellows, blues and pinks among its show highlights, has stands at both FGP and FDP.

‘One Show, Two Venues’

A pioneer of the “One Show, Two Venues” format – wherein exhibits are grouped by product category for easier navigation – the September Fair will host more than 3,700 exhibitors from around the world in two venues – the AWE and the HKCEC. The show will span across an exhibition area of more than 135,000 square metres.

Diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls – all the precious materials that a jeweller needs – will be showcased at AWE from September 12 to 16, while a glittery array of finished jewellery collections, and packaging, tools, equipment and industry-related technologies will be presented at the HKCEC from September 14 to 18.
