Fire Polish a Hit at the AGS Conclave, Ready for “Reintroduction” at JCK Show

(press release) At the recent 2018 AGS Conclave in Nashville, retailer appreciation for and acceptance of Fire Polish diamonds was evident and very rewarding to owners Glenn Markman and Robert Goldstein.  “We went to Conclave with limited expectations, but were certainly hoping for a good showing.  The response from retailers was extremely gratifying,” explained Glenn Markman, president of the company.  “They acknowledged the diamond’s unique beauty; understood the multi patented, proprietary cutting technique; and accepted our basic premise that for the first time, diamonds could consistently be cut to maximize fire and sparkle, without reducing its brilliance.”

And now the company intends to ride this wave straight into Las Vegas, where they’ll be showcasing both their loose diamond and finished jewelry collections.  Fire Polish represents the first true gemological breakthrough in diamond cutting since 1919, when Marcel Tolkowsky devised a mathematical formula for cutting a diamond, now known as the Ideal Cut.  But it didn’t happen overnight.  In fact, it’s been almost 10 years in the making.

In 2008, a team of research scientists including Dr. James Shigley, renowned research fellow at GIA, studied and tested the impact of a new method to create high-resolution diffraction grating patterns on portions of a diamond’s facets.  Combining microlithography and plasma etching, the proprietary, patented method was developed by a research team at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.  In a landmark article that appeared in the Winter 2009 issue of the GIA’s Gems & Gemology magazine, they confirmed the cutting technique could in fact improve a diamond’s dispersion of light.  Simply stated, Fire Polish increased the amount of eye visible “fire” in a diamond.

What is truly groundbreaking about this new, original cutting technique is how the increase of fire in the diamond impacted the diamond’s brilliance and scintillation.  “Here’s what we believe is the revolutionary story, if you will, about Fire Polish,” continued Markman.  “For the first time ever, a diamond’s fire and sparkle can be increased without reducing its brilliance.  In other words, retailers can now sell a diamond with extraordinary fire, sparkle AND brilliance.”

Here’s a simplified explanation of this original cutting edge technology behind Fire Polish.  Using what is called fire prism technology, thousands of tiny prisms (diffraction gratings), not facets, each 1/500th of a human hair, are cut onto a diamond’s pavilion.  See below figure 1.  These 3 dimensional prisms literally explode the while light into vibrant colors of the spectrum.  See below figure 2.  What you and your customers are actually seeing with your naked eye is a dramatic increase in the diamond’s fire (color light) and scintillation (sparkle).

Light hits the prisms… then enters the prisms…then slows down… causing it to bend. The bending light releases all the color that exists within the while light.  Think of a rainbow, where the raindrops are the prisms and the sunlight hits the raindrops, breaking it into spectral colors.

Today, Fire Polish is available in Round diamonds only. However, the company expects to add OVAL and perhaps a second additional shape before the end of the year. Both a GIA certified program (D-J, IF-SI2), as well as a non-certed program (J-K, I1) are offered.

A complete marketing support program is available, including sales training, an eye grabbing showcase display that continually rotates the diamonds to create the dazzling scintillation effect, and consumer handout brochures.

Fire Polish invites you to visit with them at the JCK Show in BOOTH L137. For more information, please contact:
