Former Store Employee Accused of Stealing $18,000 in Jewelry, Pawning It

A former jewelry-store worker in Texas has been charged with theft for allegedly taking jewelry from her employer and then pawning it.

Velvet Vargas, who worked at James Avery in San Antonio, is accused of stealing jewelry with a total value of nearly $18,000, mySanAntonio.com reports.

She’s been arrested and released on bond.

Between late 2017 and mid-2018, she allegedly took the jewelry to 17 pawn shops. Some of the pieces have been recovered.

An arrest affidavit states that in August a manager at the store saw Vargas wearing a bracelet that was “unaccounted for on her store records,” and police were called.

Police say Vargas, 20, has admitted to the theft.
