GoFundMe Campaign Launched for Jewelry Company After Fire on Chicago’s Jewelers Row

It’s thought to have been an electrical fire.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help European Designs & Manufacturing recover following a fire on Chicago’s historic Jewelers Row.

The business in the Mallers Building at 5 S. Wabash Ave. caught fire at about 2 a.m. on April 25, according to the GoFundMe page set up by Mario Macias. It’s owned by Eva and Hubert Sawasciuk.

According to the page: “Eva and Hubert Sawasciuk are two of the nicest people within the jewelry industry. They have helped so many of us over the years, now it is time for us to help them. If you wear a fantastic piece of jewelry that was manufactured in Chicago, odds are good that European Design & Manufacturing helped in part of the manufacturing process. Let’s come together and help them recover from this fire.”

Fire officials believe the cause of the fire was electrical, the Chicago Tribune reports. Firefighters rescued two people, and two firefighters were injured battling the blaze, officials said.
