Jeweler Sues — and Wins — Over Bad Yelp Review

A rival’s employee owes him $34,500, a jury found.

A jeweler in Quincy, MA, has won a lawsuit against the employee of a rival business in a case that centered on a negative Yelp review.

A jury awarded $34,500 to Stephen Blumberg, owner of Stephen Leigh Jewelers, the Patriot-Ledger reports.

Blumberg had claimed that Adam Jacobs, an employee of Toodie’s Fine Jewelry, posted a false review on Yelp. According to the Patriot-Ledger, the jury found that Blumberg is owed the money because of emotional distress resulting from the review.

In his lawsuit, Blumberg said that in 2013, the reviewer took to Yelp to describe a negative shopping experience at Stephen Leigh Jewelers — an experience that Blumberg said never actually occurred.

Blumberg also sued Toodie’s, but the jury did not find the business to be responsible. Jacobs’ father is the owner of Toodie’s, according to the Patriot-Ledger.
