Jewelry Store Robbery Prompts Detroit Mall Evacuation

A mall in suburban Detroit was evacuated after a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store, according to the Detroit Free Press. The newspaper reports that police evacuated Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan, after a suspect entered Tapper’s jewelry and smashed a display case, making a sound that some shoppers believed was gunfire. A mall spokesman said no shots were fired, and that the mall increased security patrols after the incident. The suspect was one of three who entered the mall, while a fourth waited outside in a car.
