JSA to Present 2 Awards at 140th Anniversary Luncheon

(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK — On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the Jewelers’ Security Alliance will celebrate its 140th Anniversary and host its Annual Luncheon at the New York Yacht Club. At the luncheon JSA will honor two individuals for outstanding assistance to the safety and security of the jewelry industry.

JSA will present its Eighteenth Annual Industry Service Award to Stanley Oppenheim (pictured above), the founder and CEO of DGA Security Systems, a leading supplier of alarm and security services to the diamond and jewelry industry. Oppenheim founded the firm, which employs 600 people, 50 years ago, and is one of the leading experts on protecting jewelry businesses. His R & D and engineering teams have pioneered the development and widespread adaption of many of the most noteworthy advanced in security alarm technology.

John Kennedy, president of JSA said, “This is the first time that JSA has presented the Industry Service Award to someone who is a supplier of security products or services. However, Stanley is a very special honoree. In addition to being the gold standard in the alarm industry, he has always given generously of his time in helping JSA personnel and others in the jewelry industry to understand the technology and changes as they occurred in the alarm industry.”

At the Luncheon JSA will also present the 24th Annual James B. White Law Enforcement Award to Joseph Metsopulos, a Detective with the Major Case Squad of the New York City Police Department. Metsopulos has been with the NYPD for 18 years, and is currently the liaison of the Major Case Squad to the New York Diamond District. In the last five years he has investigated over 250 diamond and jewelry cases, and has arrested and has successfully prosecuted over 60 jewelry criminals, and recovered millions in stolen diamonds, jewelry and watches.

Kennedy said, “Joe’s extraordinary record of investigations and arrests in jewelry crimes speaks for itself. His expertise, energy and dedication have helped make the industry safer.”
