The sighting: Actress Angelina Jolie attended the Golden Globes wearing a long-sleeve embellished gown and jewelry that was simultaneously understated and dramatic. Let’s take a look!

The jewels: Jolie’s primary jewels are her earrings, and what an earring situation this was! She’s was wearing at least five different ear adornments, all in white gold with diamonds, from French designer Messika and Brazilian designer Ara Vartanian. The largest diamonds all appeared to be pear shapes.

Ara Vartanian announced that the stunning chain was the White Diamond River Chain single earring in 18k white gold, but no other specifics have been identified.

The earring arrangement was my favorite part: Most of the action was at the lobe on one ear, but the other ear featured a long sparkling chain that connected the top of the ear to the bottom and lengthened the look as a whole. It was asymmetrical but felt balanced somehow.

The trends: White gold for the win! Also asymmetry, earring layering, pear shapes and fringe/chains on ears.

What do we think? This was fantastic. We’ve seen so much method dressing on red carpets recently that I was expecting Jolie’s look to be a retro Maria Callas homage, but instead the actress kept things sophisticated and modern.

The asymmetrical ear look was thrilling and highly chic. I especially loved the dangling chain on one side – it was eye-catching without being excessively large.

Judgement: 17/10 for a truly excellent earring arrangement.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
