Judge the Jewels: Araya Hargate Rocks a Stunning, Frosty Boucheron Parure

The sighting: Actress and model Araya Hargate is one of many celebrities currently delighting me with their red carpet jewelry choices at the famous Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. One look was especially showstopping – let’s take a look!

The jewels: Araya Hargate wore several pieces from Boucheron’s Hiver Impérial High Jewelry collection with her Balmain Couture gown. She chose the Flocon Impérial necklace and pendant earrings, which feature diamonds and rock crystal in white gold, and a matching ring with a 5.20 carat diamond, rock crystal, and pavé diamonds.

All of the pieces are wonderfully bold, with large, eye-catching slabs of rock crystal arranged in formations that remind one of frosty snowflakes and gleaming icicles.

According to celebrity jewelry blogger WWWJewels, this set is more than just beautiful, it’s versatile too! Several of the pieces are convertible to allow for different styles of wear: for example, that gorgeous ring can convert into a hair ornament or be clipped into the central element of the necklace – it all depends on where you want that luscious 5.20 carat diamond to be!

See a video of this necklace below.

The trends: The main trend in action here is convertible jewelry.
Statement necklaces, statement rings, and statement earrings are also trending, but they’re not usually worn all together like this. The look as a whole – a coordinating parure of all major pieces – is much more glamorous and daring than most of what we’re seeing on red carpets at the moment.

What do we think? First, this jewelry is utterly fantastic. It’s bold, creative, takes up space in an interesting way, and it uses rock crystal – a material I love – to create something fresh and compelling. Disney’s Elsa would never be able to let go of her jealousy if she saw these jewels on another.

That said… I’m not sure this is the right dress for this jewelry? The dress is stunning and exudes a type of vintage Audrey Hepburn glamour that I thoroughly enjoy, but it feels too sedate and prim for the wildly glamorous angles of Boucheron’s Hiver Impérial High Jewelry collection.

The contrast between the understated dark gown and dramatic, crystalline jewels is certainly interesting, but does it work? I’m not 100% convinced…but I love these jewels so much that I’d be happy to see them in any context.

Judgement: 1,000/10 for an incredible jewelry choice (that may have worked better with a different outfit).
