The sighting: Actor and musical artist Drake has been spotted on Instagram in a new pair of stud earrings! Let’s discuss.

The jewels: Drake’s new diamond stud earrings are a custom set made for him by Nadine Ghosn Jewelry, a whimsical fine jewelry brand with several high profile celeb fans.

One stud is a large white oval diamond set in a bezel of matte white metal, while the second stud is a heart shaped diamond of a beautiful warm color set in a matte rose or yellow gold bezel.

According to Nadine Ghosn Jewelry’s Instagram, each of these remarkable diamonds weighs exactly 10.01 carats and the oval is internally flawless.

We don’t have a value for this staggering set of studs, but the stats suggest that the price tag on this pair would have many decimal places.

The trends: These statement studs (which is a trend of its own!) are a fantastic example of the fun fine jewelry trend, as well as the current popularity of fancy diamond shapes.

It’s also an extreme version of the mixed metals trend, with two earrings in one pair set in metals of different colors.

What do we think? You know by now that I have a problem with celebrities who use their untold millions to buy boring jewelry, and this is a great example of a celeb who went enthusiastically in the opposite direction. Drake wanted diamond studs – a jewelry staple that could have been boring – and instead bought something luxe and interesting.

Good for you, Drake.

Judgement: 14/10 for a very cool pair of diamond studs.
