Judge the Jewels: Is Hailey Bieber’s Bulbous “B” Beautiful?

The sighting: Model Hailey Bieber has a new favorite piece of jewelry! She wore it out and about in NYC and to a recent event for her beauty line.

The jewels: Bieber’s B pendant was a custom project by NY celebrity jeweler Alex Moss, who posted the completed piece on their Instagram.

We don’t have any specs, but the scale of the B on Bieber’s neck and in the Alex Moss Instagram video shows that it’s quite substantial, probably at least two inches from top to bottom and nearly as big in width.

The Alex Moss video reveals the B also has a textured gold reverse side, so it’s either hollow in the middle with a decorative back or solid gold all the way through. With the amount of metal involved and the fact that it’s absolutely covered in diamonds, and I think we can assume a pretty high price point.

The trends: Initial/monogram necklaces come and go, but what’s really notable here is the scale of this piece. It’s much bigger than average the dainty daily initial pendant – but Bieber is wearing it repeatedly and with different outfits, just like any customer would do with a personalized piece they’re excited about.

Perhaps the dainty scale of daily go-to pieces is due for a size increase?

What do we think? I’m going to be honest with you here, friends…I really dislike the style of this piece. As a fellow “B,” I’ve spent many years looking at letter B monograms apparently I’ve developed some very strong opinions on the subject.

I find this B to be awkward looking and excessively bulbous. It doesn’t feel pretty or cute or chic to me, it feels swollen. It’s impressive only because of how much it must have cost, and that’s not a very interesting measurement of style.

That said: Bieber clearly acquired this, loves it, and is wearing it repeatedly. I do enjoy when celebs own and enjoy their own jewelry, so I give this piece credit for that. It’s just not my cup of tea.

Judgement: 6/10 because I don’t like the design but I do love a celeb repeat jewelry favorite.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
