Judge the Jewels: Lily Gladstone Mixes Indigenous Beading With Italian Haute Joaillerie on the Red Carpet

The sighting: Lily Gladstone recently made history as the first Indigenous woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a motion picture (drama) and the actress dressed very appropriately for the occasion, rocking a thoughtful and gorgeous combination of jewelry.

The jewels: Gladstone is wearing two major pieces of jewelry here: an eye-catching pair of earrings and a dramatic diamond collar necklace.

The earrings are hand-beaded and made by Antelope Woman Designs, a Montana-based brand helmed by Blackfeet and Cree artist, Lenise Omeasoo. The rectangular earrings feature a geometric design in black and white beads, bordered with a picture-frame inspired surround of gold beadwork. You can read more about the earrings at Marie Claire.

Below the earrings we have a dazzling Bulgari haute joaillerie diamond necklace. According to LuxSure, the specific necklace is made of platinum and features 7 round diamonds (8.99 TCW), 7 pear diamonds (11.22 TCW), 62 round diamonds (26.46 TCW), and pavé diamonds (7.23 TCW).

The trends: The major trend here is choosing to wear pieces that are personally meaningful, especially for big moments.

What do we think? While accepting her Golden Globe, Gladstone spoke in the Blackfeet language and said “[This award] doesn’t belong to just me,” she said, “This is for every little Native kid out there who has a dream and is seeing themselves represented in our stories told by ourselves, in our own words.”

I can’t think of a more perfect accessory for this moment than the work of another talented Native woman artist. And pairing it with the ultraglam Bulgari diamonds for extra sparkle and red carpet fun? It’s both genius and a poignant statement about how Lily Gladstone herself is a product of two worlds, all the more exceptional because she embraces the heritage that makes her who she is.
Hats off to you, Lily Gladstone (and stylist).

Judgement: 1,000/10 for a gorgeous and significant jewelry moment
