Judge the Jewels: Taylor Swift Is All Sparkles in Crystal and Diamonds at the 2022 VMAs

The sighting: Superstar songstress Taylor Swift lit up the 2022 VMA awards in an Oscar de la Renta dress made from strands of shimmering jewels. How does one accessorize a dress made of crystals? With diamonds, of course.

The jewels: Taylor Swift is wearing one of her favorite jewelers: celebrity darling Lorraine Schwartz. The hero piece here is her lusciously large diamond drop earrings. Each one consists of a large round diamond stud suspending an even larger pear diamond set with the pointed side down.

It’s glamorous and modern and incredibly chic.

Swift wears further Lorraine Schwartz diamonds on her hands in a series of solitaire diamond rings with large, fancy shape stones. They’re hard to see in the paparazzi photos, but they exist!

Her dress is basically a full-body necklace, so there was no need for additional neckwear.

What do we think? Yes, Taylor Swift! This lady went to the 2022 VMAs – her first VMA appearance since 2019 – ready to announce her new album and accept her awards, and she utterly nailed dressing for the momentous occasion.

Many have pointed out that this look feels like a more mature version of past T Swift looks (most notably, her diamond bathtub scene in the 2017 Look What you Made Me Do video) and I think that’s why it’s so great. It fits her brand to a T, and she knows it.

What seals the deal for me is this: 99.9% of celebs would have worn this dress with no earrings….possibly with no jewelry at all. The fact that Swift declined to be demure in her accessories and instead continued her dress’s theme with giant diamonds fills me with glee.

Judgement: 20/10 for sparkle on sparkle on sparkle on sparkle.
