Julianna Margulies Projects Unstudied Glamour in Hoops at Clooney Foundation for Justice

WHAT GOES AROUND comes around, as the adage goes. But lately, hoops just keep circling round. They have proven they are here to stay, and over the past five to ten years, hoops have continued to evolve into different interpretations. At the Clooney Foundation For Justice Inaugural Albie Awards, Julianna Margulies wore a pair of Nikos Koulis double hoops in enamel, gold and diamonds (pictured above; click on the image for a closer look at the hoops), and they complemented her halter neckline flowing gown with their easy glam — a feeling in jewelry that so many of us are looking for today.

Today’s hoops are available in multiple styles, from straightforward yellow gold to twisted, textured and braided. There are gemstone and diamond studded styles, gypsy looks, front-facing hoops with a mix of fancy cuts, and double and triple hoops that often can come apart to transform into different lengths and looks.

Koulis’ hoops provide just the right amount of elegance and cool girl vibe to be worn for numerous circumstances and occasions. The black enamel is a staple that allows the diamond part of the hoop to pop. It’s the perfect earring for those whose prefer the ease of basic black in their fashion choices.

Many designers are creating vibrantly colored hoops with enamel that conjure up images of the MOD fashion of the ‘60s a la Twiggy; the larger, more basic metal hoops Natalie Wood wore in film and real life during the same era; or the chunkier huggies and sculptural hoops of the power career woman of the ’80s and ’90s (think Robert Lee Morris and Donna Karan). But Koulis, whose jewelry has shown up on the red carpet on A-listers at numerous events, keeps it simple, versatile and wearable — just look at Margulies and you get the picture.
