CEO calls project “the biggest honor of my life.”
Alex and Ani has released a jewelry collection that incorporates copper from the Statue of Liberty.
It’s a 26-piece collection that includes bracelets as well as necklaces, rings and cuff links, New Jersey Monthly reports.
The limited-edition line, called the Liberty Copper Collection, features a replica of Lady Liberty’s torch. It was created in partnership with The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation Inc.
After nearly 100 years, the statue underwent restoration from 1984 to 1986. Stainless steel armature bars replaced the original iron frame and copper supports. The original copper was preserved, awaiting a new purpose.
“The biggest honor of my life is to take her message and make it literally, physically attached to each and every one of us,” said Carolyn Rafaelian, founder and CEO of Alex and Ani.
The company’s website shows Liberty Copper Collection pieces ranging from $38 to $2,000.
“We always knew there was a greater purpose for these preserved materials,” said Stephen A. Briganti, president and CEO of The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. He added that the collaboration with Alex and Ani “will bring the Statue’s message and spirit directly into the lives of people around the world.”
