Flatau ran Randy’s Fine Jewelry “for decades,” according to the newspaper. He was the first Beaumont resident to pass away from the coronavirus.

Flatau is being remembered for his positive attitude and dedication to the profession.

“He was always helping the people,” said George Gotcher Jr., another local jeweler who worked with Flatau.  “That is just how he was. His eyes were full of love when you met him.”

Local artist Darrell Troppy said Flatau also was “a great storyteller.”

“There were several times I would go into his store for 20 minutes and end up staying there for two hours,” he was quoted saying.
