A website that poses as a fake online jewelry retailer is working to fight against a controversial social media phenomenon known as the “thigh gap,” or the space between the thighs that’s being praised as a look that women should strive to achieve, as The Inquisitr explains.
TGap Jewellery, at first glance, appears to be selling jewelry that’s designed to be worn in and around the thigh gap. But on the “About” page, there’s a link to another page that reveals the website’s actual intent of catalyzing a debate on “unrealistic social media body image portrayals.” It also contains educational information aimed at discouraging women from engaging in unhealthy dieting to achieve the look.
Angela Guarda, director of the Johns Hopkins eating disorders program, is quoted on the website, saying: “The bone structure defines whether you can have a thigh gap: the shape of the pelvic girdle and distance between the hipbones. Most women have narrow hips that even with little fat on their legs, there is no gap between their thighs.”
