Ultra-Rare Violet Diamond Unearthed in Australia Preps for World Tour

Just 12 carats of such polished stones have been produced over the last 32 years.

Australian mining giant Rio Tinto recently discovered a violet diamond, which is set to tour various cities across the world beginning this summer, Science Alert writes. The article says that the diamond was found in Rio Tinto’s Argyle mine, which produces 90 percent of the world’s pink and red diamonds. The diamond weighed 9.17 carats when it was pulled out of the ground, and it has since been crafted down to 2.83 carats. In the last 32 years, just 12 carats of polished stones of this nature have been produced.
