The 2024 Academy Awards celebration lived up to its reputation for bringing out the best jewels of awards season. It glittered with diamonds and went bold with statement necklaces — which were trends we were seeing — but it also brought back more colored gemstones, chunky gold vintage or vintage-inspired looks and dapper men that stole some of the jewelry spotlight. While there was spectacular diamond jewelry, we are going to concentrate on a few looks and then highlight some of the more unexpected pieces that took center stage.

Diamond Divas

The three diamond looks in the following slides deserved mention as they lit up the evening:

Charlize Theron should win the best bejeweled look of the evening. She glowed in Boucheron’s layered necklaces, linear earrings and flexible diamond bracelets. The look harked back to old Hollywood glamour, as Theron traditionally does.

Emily Blunt never misses a beat. She is is the epitome of a style setter, from her jewels to her gown. Like Theron, her diamond and platinum necklaces from Tiffany & Co. were graduated and layered to perfection.

Lupita Nyong’o received her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 12 Years a Slave while wearing powder blue Prada and for this event she gave a nod to her win in a similarly colored Armani Privé gown. The jewels twinkled from her ears to her wrists and fingers. She wore a bevy of De Beers pieces, including diamond earrings, bracelets and rings.

Juicy gemstones stole the spotlight in bold necklaces and feminine pendant earrings that ranged from vintage mid-20th to 70s influences up to modern-day relevant drop earrings.

Brittany Snow stuck her neck out with a gold and gemmy Pomellato statement choker.

America Ferrera also went bold in a Pomellato necklace.

Dapper and Dandy

The A-list actors proved that diamonds aren’t only a girl’s best friend but are just as suited to men. The guys wore them well in brooches, bracelets and rings. They also wore colored gemstones, distinctive watches and talisman-like necklaces.

Colman Domingo put on the glitz in dazzling brooch on his bow tie, David Yurman jewelry and a watch from Omega. He also showed off a pinky ring he has been wearing all award season that belonged to Bayard Rustin, the civil rights activist he portrays in Rustin.

Simu Liu finished off his tux in De Beers Imaginary Nature Brooch set in platinum with a TCW of 32.61 of diamonds. However, he didn’t wear it on his lapel. He went for a more unexpected placement.

Matthew McConaughey looked rugged and dashing and accented his look with a Ribbon Brooch by Cindy Chao.

Ryan Gosling has become one to watch for fashion trends and he always rocks his looks. He wore a necklace that I unfortunately couldn’t make out, but it seemed to be a talisman-like pendant on a thin chain. It suited him. But then again, what doesn’t?

Teo Yoo (who I absolutely loved in Past Lives) sported a Cartier Collection Tortoise brooch from 2002 in 18K white gold with an emerald cabochon and diamonds. He also wore a Pasha de Cartier watch in 18K yellow gold and steel as well as Two Trinity de Cartier rings.
