After 100 Years in Business, Jewelry Chain to Shutter All 54 Stores

Retailer comes up short in turnaround plan.

Winnipeg-based Ben Moss Jewellers will close its 54 store locations after 106 years in business, Chain Store Age reports. According to the article, the retailer began a restructuring effort last May after receiving creditor protection. However, the company later decided that after considering various options – including selling all or part of the business – its best option was to shutter the stores. A weak Canadian dollar and a soft economy in Western Canada were two factors that contributed to the retailer’s struggles, the article adds.
