(PRESS RELEASE) ALROSA plans to commit 200 mln rubles ($2.7 mln) to housing construction in the Byas-Kyuel village in the Gorny District of Yakutia, Russia, which has been impacted by forest fires. In a decision expected this week, the Company’s Supervisory Board will confirm that the funds will be used to rebuild housing and economic infrastructure in the region.
Sergey Ivanov, CEO of ALROSA, said: “ALROSA is working closely with the Yakut government at this difficult time for the region, providing any help it can. We hope that these funds will enable local communities to soon resume their lives as normal and provide them with support at this difficult time.”
The funding will be channeled via the Special Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and will serve in addition to ALROSA’s annual contribution to the region. In February 2021, the Company concluded a further collaboration agreement with the Fund to provide targeted financial support aimed at addressing the Republic’s most pressing social issues. This includes constructing new cultural, educational, healthcare and sports facilities, world-class training for children, and promoting environmental protection. In 2021, ALROSA allocated 850 mln rubles ($11.6 mln) to these causes, and contributed a total of 7.2 bn rubles ($153 mln) to the Special Fund for Future Generations over 2011-2020.
