American Society of Appraisers Announces 2016 Annual Conference

RESTON, VA – The American Society of Appraisers has announced the upcoming 2016 ASA Personal Property Annual Connoisseurship Conference to be held March 10-12 at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The theme for the 2016 conference is “The Sacred and the Profane.” Participants will discuss and examine how appraisers deal with sacred objects, the rules and protocols surrounding ritual artifacts, what can be learned from the turmoil in the contemporary art and collector car markets, and more.

Highlights include:

  • An introductory lecture on The Sacred and the Profane by Richard-Raymond J. Alasko, FASA;
  • A panel discussion on The Profanity of the Contemporary Art and Collector Car Markets by Dr. Don Thompson; David H. Kinney, ASA; Donald W. Osborne, ASA;
  • Sessions on Appraising Sacred Books with Lee Biondi and John V. Henley, ASA; The Chinese Fine and Decorative Art Market with David Borodin, ASA; Properties from the Fringe with John V. Henley, ASA and Susan Golashovsky, ASA; Icons with Dr. Wendy Salmond; and Ethics in a New Appraisal Environment with Mary Jane Andrews, CBV.

In addition to speakers, seminars and panel discussions, there will be featured museum and gallery tours, including the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museum of Anthropology.
