The complaint says he used a “deceptive consignment scheme.”
The Florida attorney general has filed a complaint against jeweler Christopher Kaufmann, the Palm Beach Daily News reports.
The complaint states that Kaufmann took jewelry from consumers “through a deceptive consignment scheme.” Kaufmann’s Le Salon is located in the upscale Worth Avenue district of Palm Beach.
Attorney General Pam Bondi says there are at least 17 victims owed a total of well over $500,000. The Daily News reports that it was not able to reach Kaufmann for comment.
The attorney general is asking a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge to have Kaufmann pay restitution and civil penalties. The attorney general also wants Kaufmann to be barred permanently from consigning jewelry in Florida.
The complaint states that the jewelry taken was worth over $1 million in all.
Kaufmann is facing several lawsuits from plaintiffs who claim he owes them money or jewelry.
