Borsheims Opens Water System in Africa

(press release) OMAHA, NE – People buying diamonds in Omaha, Nebraska are responsible for providing water to nearly 4,000 people in Africa through their purchases at Borsheims Jewelry. The jewelry store reached its goal and sold enough of its exclusive Kalahari Dream Diamonds to build and unveil a water delivery system in Botswana this week. Borsheims’ Diamond Buyer Heather Ingraham traveled to the villages of Malwelwe and Ngware to cut the ribbon on the system and meet with community members.

Ms. Ingraham is documenting her trip and has photos and video available for you to download and use here.

The Kalahari Dream Diamonds are a partnership born of Ms. Ingraham of Borsheims and Leo Schachter Diamonds. With a tagline of “Unearth a Diamond, Uplift a Community,” the intent behind the diamonds is clear –  to give back to the Kalahari Desert region where the diamonds originate. In addition to the building of the water delivery system, The Kalahari Dream Diamonds provide many jobs in southern Africa and the sale of the diamonds contributes to improving healthcare, providing educational scholarships, empowering women, safeguarding the environment and strengthening entire communities.

At the dedication ceremony in Malwelwe, Ms. Ingraham said that the creation and success of the Kalahari Dream Diamonds collection is a dream come true for her. “Borsheims has been giving back to the people of Omaha, Nebraska, for years,” Ingraham said. “Today, we are so proud to include the Malwelwe and Ngware communities in our charitable acts as well. It’s a wonderful way to bring our world together.
